“Friday Beers: Magic Hat #9”

06.22.18 | Company Culture

< div>Welcome back to Friday Beers! Each week we pour a new brew and then offer our naive opinion on it. We’re not really huge beer snobs but we do love beer, so this is really just an opportunity to have our boss buy us a cold one in the name of journalism, or something like that. Today’s pick is straight out of Vermont: Magic Hat #9. < /div>
Magic Hat #9; not exactly an IPA
< div> < /div>
< div>Brewed in: South Burlington, VT< /div>
< div> < /div>
< div>ABV: 5.1% (they couldn’t just stop at 5%?)< /div>
< div> < /div>
< div>Beer rating: 35< /div>

< div>Our review: It says “IPA” on the bottle, but this foamy, juicy barley pop tastes nothing like bug spray and pine trees. Normally we would tell you something about how the beer is brewed or what ingredients it contains but Magic Hat keeps this recipe under wraps. Even the name is mysterious. Is this the 9th beer recipe they made? Did they fail 8 other times? Are they just humongous Gordie Howe fans? They had better be. There’s only one Mr. Hockey, so we’re taking this chance to coin a new phrase in honor of this beer: Workbox Hat Trick. It’s when you finish your monthly reports, have a beer, < em>and< /em> confirm your Monday appointments all in the same Friday afternoon. Cheers!< /div>

< div>Why we like it: This beer is a real crowd pleaser, in our humble opinion. We think mango, peach, or apricot are the flavors running over our pallets, which makes for a fun mix of refreshing and interesting. Like the lead singer from the band Sugar Ray. Is his name Sugar Ray? Do we address him as Mr. Ray? You could seriously start your next brainstorming session trying to come up with explanations for the flavor and name of this Quixotic beverage and feel confident that the 3rd quarter is going to be, ahem, fruitful for you.< /div>
< div> < /div>
< div>Why we don’t like it: You know the band The Beatles, right? Ever listened to the White Album all the way through? About two-thirds of the way you get to this track that’s, like, 30 minutes of some guy repeating “number 9” in a really creepy voice. Makes no sense. It’s probably the reason The Beatles broke up. Anyway, we keep hearing that creepy voice in our heads. He’s telling us to invest in Magic Hat. Seems suspicious.< /div>
< div> < /div>
< div>Pairs well with: Gordie Howe highlight reels, company golf outings, Beatles albums, brainstorming sessions on Fridays at 2:30, cheese, lots of cheese.< /div>
