< strong style="background-color: transparent;">Our review: Well off the beaten path in Northern Michigan, you may stumble upon Short’s Brewing. Short’s opened its doors in 2004 after Joe Short renovated a 120-year-old hardware store in Bellaire, MI. “Now this is a story all about how my life got flipped turned upside down, and I’d like to take a minute, just sit right there I’ll tell you how I became the prince of a town called Bel-Air”…sorry, wrong Bel-Air. Joe’s mission was a simple yet tasty beer with the most beautiful ingredients. Soft Parade had us pretty close to leaving the office to drink this beer on the beach with its blend of rye flakes loaded with pureed strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. Seriously though, what are rye flakes?

< strong style="background-color: transparent;">Why we like it: Soft Parade presents well, like a prom date in a duct tape tuxedo or one of those mini pigs wearing a tutu. We won’t be forgetting the pleasant taste and aroma of this brew anytime soon. It kind of tastes like the farmers market (that reminds me, I need to pick up some peaches on my way home) and smells like “summer in a cup”; which sounds cliche, but bear with us. It’s been a long Winter in Michigan. Like the girl on the label, we felt this was a great beer to grab along with your beach chair for a long hot summer day on the lake (girl, we feel you).

< strong style="background-color: transparent;">Why we don’t like it: While we have a sweet tooth just as much as the next guy, we thought this brew was almost too sweet. Don’t get us wrong; we rarely turn down sweets. There’s an empty bag of Mexican sweet bread right here if you need proof. We were slightly nervous about having a sugar crash after drinking this beer. So while it will probably please your grandma’s tastes, it may not satisfy triple IPA guy who still wears his 2016 Bonnaroo bracelet. We also weren’t thrilled at how quickly this beer went flat; you shouldn’t expect the carbonation to last should you choose to enjoy Soft Parade during a real parade. Also, why are you drinking at a parade?

< strong style="background-color: transparent;">Pairs well with: That burger your uncle just made with his “secret blend” (it’s salt), taking an extra long time to change your own oil, napkin folding, hitting “send” on that email sitting in your draft folder since Tuesday.
