Welder
Location: Comstock Park Shift: 1st shift Pay: $24 per hour
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Welder to join our team. In this role, you will fabricate custom industrial HVAC equipment from the ground up. Using engineering drawings, you will manually MIG weld structural components and sheet steel to build each custom unit.
Fabrication is a key part of this position. Welders are responsible for determining the appropriate order of fabrication based on the final engineering drawing rather than following step-by-step instructions. A typical unit can be 5–10 feet tall and approximately the same width and length, with fabrication taking approximately 1–3 days per unit. Detailed fabrication processes will be taught, but prior MIG welding experience is required.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Welder, your core responsibilities will include:
- Read and interpret mechanical engineering prints to determine the proper fabrication and assembly of custom HVAC units.
- MIG weld steel components and sheet metal to fabricate structural frames and complete the skin of each unit.
- Fabricate custom units from the ground up, determining the appropriate sequence of fabrication based on engineering drawings and available subcomponents.
- Use a variety of hand tools and fabrication equipment to complete units.
- Operate overhead cranes and Hi-Lo equipment safely to move materials and components.
- Caulk completed units as part of the finishing process.
- Communicate and work with other departments to ensure units are completed efficiently and accurately.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and follow all applicable safety requirements.
- Be available for overtime as needed.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you should have the following:
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous MIG welding experience is required.
- Must be able to successfully complete a weld proficiency test.
- Ability to read and understand mechanical engineering prints.
- Ability to safely work on ladders and remain standing for extended periods.
- Ability to operate or learn to operate overhead cranes and Hi-Lo equipment.
- Must be available for overtime.
Skills:
- MIG welding: Experience with MIG welding is essential for fabricating structural steel components and sheet metal.
- Blueprint/print reading: Ability to read mechanical engineering prints and use them to determine how a custom unit should be fabricated.
- Fabrication and problem-solving: Ability to determine the proper sequence for building a unit without step-by-step instructions.
- Communication: Ability to effectively communicate and work with other departments to complete projects.
- Safety awareness: Ability to follow applicable safety requirements while working with welding equipment, tools, cranes, and other machinery.
