Utility Position – Pressroom Duties (Condensed – Combined)
Entry-level role supporting flexographic press operations and development into specialized positions
Safety & Compliance
Follow all safety procedures, PPE, chemical handling, SDS, and environmental requirements
Maintain hazard awareness and report unsafe conditions immediately
Participate in safety training and comply with company safety and quality rules and complete all training modules
Properly handle, label, and dispose of hazardous waste
Equipment & Operation
Inspect equipment (anilox rolls, sleeves, cylinders) and report issues
Ensure proper handling and storage of plates and sleeves
Operate distiller, floor scrubber, and Flexo Wash
Assist with hanging rolls and roll removal
Production Support
Assist with setups, changeovers, and wash-ups
Help prepare press for changeovers
Assist with moving finished rolls and moving products to warehouse
Keep materials and tools staged and available
Support production flow and reduce downtime
Accurately weigh and record scrap
Communicate with operators, leads, and supervisors
Cleaning & Maintenance
Clean press components (pans, pumps, mixers, doctor blade chambers, ink systems)
Clean plates, cylinders, and printing plates
Maintain and clean anilox rolls, sleeves, and cylinders
Maintain cleanliness of press floors, and surrounding areas
Organization & 5S
Keep tools, equipment, and work areas organized
Empty trash and remove debris from press area
Return unused materials and inks to proper locations
Follow 5S and housekeeping standards
Teamwork & Development
Follow department training program
Support continuous improvement efforts
Maintain positive communication with team members and leadership
Assist other production teams as needed
Perform all other duties as assigned
Physical & Work Environment
Lift and stack up to 50 lbs.
Work in a non-temperature-controlled manufacturing environment

Job SummaryWe’re seeking an Assist Utility to join our team in the Flexographic Printing Press Department in Sparta, MI. This is an entry-level position supporting slitter operators and pressroom operations, with opportunities to learn and develop into more specialized positions.
What You’ll Be DoingAs an Assist Utility, your key responsibilities will include:Production Support: Assist slitter operators and press operators with setups, changeovers, wash-ups, and other production activities.
Pressroom Support: Help prepare presses for changeovers, assist with hanging and removing rolls, and help move finished rolls and products to the warehouse.
Equipment Operation: Operate equipment such as a distiller, floor scrubber, and Flexo Wash.
Equipment Inspection: Inspect anilox rolls, sleeves, cylinders, and other equipment and report any issues.
Cleaning: Clean press components including pans, pumps, mixers, doctor blade chambers, and ink systems. Clean and maintain plates, cylinders, anilox rolls, sleeves, and surrounding press areas.
Material Handling: Keep materials and tools staged and available, return unused materials and inks to their proper locations, and assist with moving products and materials.
Scrap Tracking: Accurately weigh and record scrap.
Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, chemical handling procedures, SDS requirements, and environmental regulations. Properly handle, label, and dispose of hazardous waste.
Housekeeping: Maintain clean, organized press floors and work areas. Empty trash, remove debris, and follow 5S housekeeping standards.
Communication: Communicate effectively with operators, leads, and supervisors regarding production, equipment, and safety concerns.
Team Support: Assist other production teams as needed and support continuous improvement efforts.
Training: Follow the department training program and complete all required training modules.
What We’re Looking ForQualifications:Entry-level position; previous experience is not necessarily required.
Ability and willingness to learn flexographic printing press operations.

Ability to work effectively in a production environment.
