Job Title:  3rd Shift Automation/CNC Machinist
Location: Kentwood, MI
Shift: 3rd Shift, 10:45 PM – 7:15 AM, Monday – Friday (includes startup and shutdown activities)
Pay: Non-Exempt Hourly, $26-32 per hour based on experience

Job Summary:
The 3rd Shift Automation/CNC Machinist plays a critical role in our manufacturing operations, focusing on precision part production during overnight hours. This position is responsible for safely setting up, operating, and maintaining advanced CNC machinery, with an emphasis on automated manufacturing processes. Machinists are expected to ensure high-quality output, perform meticulous quality checks, and troubleshoot equipment while adhering to all safety and quality standards.
What You'll Be Doing:

As a 3rd Shift Automation/CNC Machinist, your core responsibilities will include:
  • Operate and set up various Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines, such as lathes, mills, and grinders, in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Load and unload raw materials, change cutting tools, and perform tool offsets to ensure accurate machining operations.
  • Read and follow engineering drawings, blueprints, sketches, and CAD/CAM files to understand part requirements and specifications.
  • Perform quality checks using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) to verify dimensions and ensure products meet exact quality and tolerance standards.
  • Monitor machine performance, identify and resolve operational issues, and make necessary adjustments to machine controls (feeds, speeds) to maintain production quality and efficiency.
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance on CNC machinery and associated automation equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimize downtime.
  • Potentially edit or create G-Code programs for CNC machines to optimize production processes.
  • Accurately maintain production records, logs, and quality documentation.
  • Inspect finished products to ensure they meet Workbox Staffing's quality standards.
  • Perform regular lifting of materials and products (approximately 40–75 lbs.).
  • In addition, you will also be expected to demonstrate excellent attendance, work collaboratively as a part of the team, and adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines.
What We’re Looking For:
To be successful in this role, you should have the following:
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Proven experience as a CNC Machinist in a manufacturing setting, with experience or exposure to automated systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints, technical drawings, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, bore gauges).
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and strong attention to detail.
  • Basic math and measurement skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks required for the role, including regularly lifting and moving product weighing up to 40–75 lbs.
  • Reliable attendance and a strong safety mindset.
Skills:
  • Strong understanding of CNC machinery operation, setup, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with specific CNC control systems (e.g., Fanuc, Haas, Mazak).
  • Familiarity with G-Code programming and editing.
  • Previous manufacturing or machine operation experience.
  • Experience using hand tools and power tools.
  • Ability to read work orders and follow written instructions.
