Job Summary
Are you a dependable and safety-focused individual looking to grow in a manufacturing environment? We are seeking a Material Handler / Coil Packaging Associate to support production operations by packaging steel coils, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring safe and efficient material handling.
What You’ll Be Doing:
Fully participating in and supporting the Horizon Steel Quality System
Complying with all safety requirements, including wearing a hard hat and safety glasses
Applying side bands securely to coils
Applying bands to secure coils to skids when packaged
Ensuring protective packaging is used as required
Reading work orders and following customer-specific packaging instructions
Following direction from the Banding Captain and Plant Manager
Maintaining a clean and orderly work area
Reporting any quality concerns and stopping production when necessary to prevent nonconformance
Building skids using lumber, a table saw, and a nail gun
Operating a monorail crane to stack steel coils on skids
Using a forklift to store finished goods
Qualifications:
May or may not have experience in a metal manufacturing environment
Must have basic reading, writing, and math skills
Skills & Abilities:
Ability to follow instructions and work in a team-oriented environment
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to maintain organization and cleanliness in the work area
Equipment Experience Preferred:
Overhead Crane
Semi-automatic banding equipment
Banding conveyor, turnstiles, and coil picker
Hand-operated banding equipment
Electronic scale
Forklift
Micrometer
Caliper
Tape measure
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, stand, bend, and perform repetitive tasks throughout the shift
Must adhere to all required PPE and safety guidelines
