Job Summary
The Machine Operator is responsible for safely operating CNC equipment and related machinery to support production in a steel fabrication environment. This role involves machine setup, part measurement, equipment maintenance, and material handling, while ensuring product quality, workplace safety, and adherence to production schedules.
Responsibilities
- Operate CNC machinery and related equipment to produce precision parts
- Load raw materials, monitor machine cycles, and adjust feeds/speeds as needed
- minor program edits as directed
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work instructions
- Use precision measuring tools (tape measure, calipers, micrometers) to verify part accuracy
- Record inspection data to ensure compliance with specifications
- Safely move and stage steel parts using overhead cranes, hoists, and forklifts
- Manually load, stack, and transport tools, stock, and finished goods
- Conduct in-process inspections and ensure products meet quality standards
- Document production output and report any deviations or issues
- Support and investigate for corrective actions for quality concerns
- Clean and maintain machines, work areas, tools, and equipment daily
- Perform basic troubleshooting and report mechanical or process issues
- Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE use and crane operation protocols
- Collaborate with supervisors, engineers, and teammates to meet production goals
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and problem-solving activities
- Communicate effectively with the next shift during shift handoffs
Key Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing setting
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and production drawings
- Computer skills to enter/edit machine programs and record production data
- Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving ability
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous welding/ fabrication experience
- Previous experience with operating an overhead crane
- Previous experience with structural steel fabrication
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
