Location : Grand Rapids, MI  Shift:  2nd Shift    Monday–Friday, 4:00 pm - 2:00 am  Pay:  $25.00 per hour

Job Summary

Workbox Staffing is seeking a highly skilled CNC Programmer / Setup / Operator to join our production team. This is a multi-functional role involving CNC program creation, full machine setup, and hands-on operation of CNC mills and/or lathes. The ideal candidate is experienced, detail-oriented, and capable of managing all phases of the machining process—from initial programming to final inspection—to support efficient, accurate, and high-quality production.

What You’ll Be Doing

As a CNC Programmer / Setup / Operator, your responsibilities will include:

Programming

  • Creating, editing, and optimizing CNC programs using Mastercam, G-code, and/or other CAM software.
  • Interpreting blueprints, CAD models, and technical drawings to determine machining strategies and toolpaths.
  • Selecting cutting tools, speeds, and feeds for efficient and precise machining.
  • Troubleshooting and revising programs to improve cycle times, tool life, and part accuracy.

Setup

  • Performing complete setups on CNC mills and/or lathes, including fixtures, tooling, work offsets, and proving out programs.
  • Ensuring machine readiness and updating all setup documentation as needed.
  • Conducting first-piece inspections and making adjustments to tooling or programs to ensure specification compliance.

Operation

  • Operating CNC equipment to produce precision components according to specifications.
  • Monitoring machine performance, part quality, and overall production flow.
  • Conducting in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measurement tools.
  • Maintaining an organized work area and following all safety procedures.
     

Maintenance & Continuous Improvement

  • Performing routine maintenance such as cleaning, lubrication, and minor adjustments.
  • Working with engineering and production teams to enhance machining processes.
  • Identifying opportunities to reduce downtime, improve efficiency, and increase consistency.
     

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical machining training preferred
  • 3+ years of CNC programming and machine setup experience (mills, lathes, or both)
  • Strong understanding of G-code, tooling concepts, machining strategies, and CNC operations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and technical specifications
  • Experience with Mastercam, Fusion 360, or similar CAM software
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods
