Job Title : Commodity Buyer
Location: Grand Rapids, MI
Shift: 1st Shift, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday
Pay:  Exempt, $60,000 - $85,000 annually

Job Summary:
Workbox Staffing is hiring a proactive and detail-oriented 1st Shift Commodity Buyer for a direct hire opportunity. This role is critical to our client's manufacturing operations and is responsible for managing the procurement of specific commodities. You will ensure the timely and cost-effective acquisition of high-quality materials, negotiate with suppliers, and play a key part in optimizing supply chain efficiency.
What You'll Be Doing:
As a Commodity Buyer, your core responsibilities will include:
  • Manage the end-to-end procurement process for assigned commodities, ensuring an uninterrupted supply of materials for production.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with new and existing suppliers, negotiating favorable terms, pricing, and delivery schedules.
  • Conduct market research to identify potential suppliers, assess market trends, and evaluate new products and technologies.
  • Analyze purchasing data, inventory levels, and production forecasts to optimize ordering quantities.
  • Process purchase orders, manage supplier contracts, and ensure compliance with company purchasing policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate closely with internal departments, including Production, Engineering, and Quality, to understand material requirements.
  • Resolve issues related to supplier performance, quality discrepancies, and delivery delays.
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and process improvements within the supply chain.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing records and generate reports on supplier performance and cost savings.
  • In addition, you will also be expected to demonstrate excellent attendance, work collaboratively as a part of the team, and adhere to all company policies and guidelines.
What We’re Looking For:
To be successful in this role, you should have the following:
Qualifications:
  • Proven experience as a buyer or in a procurement role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in using ERP/MRP systems for purchasing functions.
  • Strong negotiation skills and experience with supplier relationship management.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications and material requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Reliable attendance and a strong commitment to ethical purchasing practices.
Skills:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of supply chain principles and best practices.
  • Experience with commodity-specific purchasing (e.g., metals, electronics, plastics).
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
