A duct fabricator is responsible for creating, assembling, and sometimes installing sheet metal ductwork used in HVAC systems. These ducts carry air throughout residential, commercial, or industrial buildings.
Typical Responsibilities:
- Measure, cut, and shape sheet metal according to blueprints or specifications
- Assemble and fabricate ducts using tools like shears, brakes, and welding equipment
- Use machines such as plasma cutters or roll formers
- Read and interpret HVAC blueprints or layout drawings
- Ensure proper sizing and airflow for efficiency and safety
- Maintain tools and equipment and ensure a clean, safe work environment
- Occasionally assist with on-site installation
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience with sheet metal fabrication tools
- Ability to read technical drawings or blueprints
- Knowledge of HVAC systems and air distribution principles
- Attention to detail and strong measurement skills
- Physical ability to lift, bend, and stand for long periods
