Job Summary
The Foreman provides leadership, oversight, and coordination of production activities in the Miscellaneous Shop. The role ensures that the shop meets its production schedule, maintains quality standards, enforces safety policies, manages workflow, and supervises team members. The Foreman acts as the primary point of contact between shop floor staff, project management, and other internal departments.
Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and control daily production flow in the miscellaneous shop
- Assign work to employees based on their skills/capabilities
- Manage use of overhead crane and yard equipment to move materials in and out of production
- Receive and organize parts and materials for production
- Conduct weld inspections and quality checks on fabricated parts
- Review prints/drawings for special conditions (e.g., galvanized, oversize, CJP — “complete joint penetration” welds) before starting fabrication
- Supervise, lead, and manage shop floor employees
- Communicate shift expectations clearly to employees, enforce company policies
- Fill in during absences of Plant Manager as needed
- Enforce safety procedures and proper use of personal protective equipment
- Maintain a safe work environment
- Liaise with Project Management, Job Captains, etc., to clarify specifications or resolve fabrication/detailing issues.
- Participate in production/weekly meetings.
- Ensure finished jobs are properly checked in, documented, and filed. Mark travelers, maintain job-specific boxes/bins.
- Monitor scheduling issues and report them to the Plant Manager.
- Assist in ordering or releasing purchase orders for materials when needed
Key Qualifications
- 2-3+ years of experience in the fabrication of structural steel, with specific experience in layout, welding and fabricating stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel
- Able to lift up to 70 pounds and maintain physical stamina throughout an entire shift
- Experience operating overhead cranes and other yard/shop equipment
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, prints, specifications
- Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical skills
- Leadership / supervisory experience; ability to train and manage employees
- Great communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certifications for Welding/ Fabrication
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and machinery
- Capable of standing for extended periods and performing tasks that require manual dexterity
