Miscellaneous Shop Foreman

Location: Kentwood, MI   Shift:   2nd Shift: 4:00 PM – 3:00 AM, Monday – Friday (Overtime available on Saturday as needed)

Pay: 25.00+ per hour 

Job Summary

Are you an experienced and motivated leader with a background in metal fabrication and shop management? We’re seeking a Foreman to join our team in Kentwood, MI . In this role, you’ll play a key part in overseeing production operations within our Miscellaneous Shop—ensuring quality, safety, and efficiency while leading a skilled team to meet production goals.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Foreman , your core responsibilities will include:
  • Overseeing daily production: Plan, direct, and coordinate workflow to meet project deadlines and maintain quality standards.
  • Leading and supporting the team: Assign tasks based on skill levels, train new employees, and enforce safety and company policies.
  • Maintaining equipment and quality: Conduct weld inspections, ensure proper material handling, and monitor shop equipment such as overhead cranes and yard tools.
In addition, you will also be expected to act as a liaison between shop staff, project management, and other departments to resolve fabrication issues and ensure smooth operations.

What We're Looking For

To be successful in this role, you should have the following:

Qualifications:
  • 2–3+ years of experience in structural or miscellaneous steel fabrication, including layout, welding, and assembly of stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel components
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, and specifications
  • Hands-on experience operating shop equipment such as overhead cranes, forklifts, and fabrication tools
  • Strong understanding of welding processes and inspection standards (e.g., CJP welds, galvanized or specialty projects)
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills to manage workflow and coordinate with project management
  • Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and maintain physical stamina throughout the shift
  • Demonstrated commitment to enforcing safety procedures and maintaining a clean, hazard-free work environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or welding certifications preferred
 
Skills:
  • Previous Leadership & Team Management Experience-  Having the ability to supervise, motivate, guide, and train employees in the shop is very important toward the success of the Miscellaneous Shop team. As the Foreman conflict resolution and problem solving skills are imperative to the role as well. 
  • Fabrication & Structural Steel Knowledge: A Foreman with technical fabrication and structural steel knowledge ensures accurate, high-quality, and safe shop operations. This expertise allows them to guide the team, troubleshoot issues, enforce safety, and communicate effectively, keeping projects on track and running efficiently.
  • Equipment Operation:  A successful candidate for this role will have experience in operating overhead cranes and forklifts for material handling purposes
  • Safety, Compliance, Organizational Skills:  Safety is of the utmost importance and the Foreman must be organized and knowledgeable on remaining compliant.
