Human Resources Generalist
Montague, MI, 1st, $29+/hour BOE
Job Summary
Are you an experienced HR professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment? We’re seeking a Human Resources Generalist to support and enhance human resources practices across the organization. In this role, you’ll partner with another HR Generalist to ensure continuity, compliance, and employee support—each owning a specialty area while being cross-trained to back one another up.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Human Resources Generalist, your core responsibilities will include:
- Employee Relations & HR Operations: Supporting employees and managers with employee relations matters, documentation, follow-up, and maintaining a compliant employee handbook and leadership guide.
- HR Records & Processes: Creating and maintaining accurate employee records, developing SOPs, and improving HR program delivery and effectiveness.
- Payroll, Benefits & Leave (Primary Ownership for One Role): Processing biweekly and off-cycle payroll, managing PTO/EST tracking, benefits administration, leave of absence processes (FMLA, ADA, STD/LTD), reporting, reconciliations, and performance/salary review coordination.
- Safety & Recruiting (Primary Ownership for One Role): Managing OSHA/MIOSHA compliance, safety programs, audits, trainings, workers’ compensation, staffing and recruiting processes, onboarding/offboarding, and temporary staffing coordination.
In addition, you will also be expected to serve as backup support in your partner’s specialty area to ensure seamless HR coverage.
What We’re Looking For
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 2–4 years of experience within an HR department; manufacturing experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws
- HR certification preferred; safety certifications a plus
Skills:
- Experience with HRIS and payroll systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred)
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft 365, HRIS systems, internet tools)
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities
- High level of confidentiality, professionalism, and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
