Mechanical Engineer – $75,000–$85,000/yr – Elkhart, IN
Looking to join a growing company where your engineering skills and cost-estimation expertise can make a real impact? This is a full-time, temporary-to-direct hire opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer with specialized experience in metal fabrication. You’ll bridge the gap between engineering, production, and finance to support efficient, cost-effective, and high-quality product development.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design mechanical components and assemblies using sheet metal, structural steel, and machined parts
- Create detailed 2D/3D CAD drawings and models (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar)
- Develop accurate cost estimates for fabricated parts, including materials, labor, machining, and finishing
- Analyze engineering drawings to determine material and production requirements
- Collaborate with procurement and finance to validate pricing and vendor quotes
- Identify cost reduction opportunities through design and process improvements
- Support quoting processes with timely and accurate cost data
- Partner with production and supply chain to align designs with manufacturing capabilities
- Assist with prototyping, testing, and new product development within budget constraints
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field)
- 3–5 years of experience in mechanical design and metal fabrication
- 2+ years in cost estimation or product costing in manufacturing
- Proficiency in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor)
- Knowledge of fabrication processes: welding, CNC machining, laser cutting, bending, assembly
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and cross-functionally
