Molding - Machine Operator

Location:  Byron Center, MI
Shift:  2nd Shift | Monday-Friday | 2:00 PM - 10:30 PM
Pay:  $19.75 per hour

Job Summary

Are you a motivated and mechanically inclined individual looking for a manufacturing opportunity? We're seeking a  Molding - Machine Operator  to join our team in Byron Center, MI. In this role, you'll operate molding and expander equipment, monitor production quality, support material handling operations, and help maintain safe and efficient manufacturing processes.

What You'll Be Doing

As a Molding - Machine Operator, your core responsibilities will include:
  • Ensuring all safety requirements and quality standards are followed at all times.
  • Operating and monitoring mold and expander machines with minimal supervision.
  • Monitoring and adjusting machine settings to ensure acceptable material production.
  • Performing startup, shutdown, cleanup, and routine machine maintenance procedures.
  • Operating forklifts to load, unload, and move raw materials safely throughout the facility.
  • Completing required production records accurately, neatly, and legibly.
  • Completing work orders for maintenance repairs and communicating equipment concerns to supervisors.
  • Operating conveyor systems safely and efficiently.
  • Locating and moving blocks to designated storage areas within the plant.
  • Carrying or hauling scrap materials to designated disposal or recycling areas.
  • Assisting with hotroom maintenance and inventory audits as requested.
  • Following posted production schedules and seeking work assignments during downtime.
  • Assisting with machine downtime scheduling for maintenance activities.
  • Supporting outdoor cleanup activities and assisting other departments when needed.
  • Helping train new employees and department transfers.
  • Following lock out/tag out procedures and all company safety protocols.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications:

  • Manufacturing or machine operation experience preferred.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) preferred.
  • Ability to push, pull, and/or lift up to 50 pounds safely.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, squat, climb steps or ladders, and perform repetitive movements throughout the shift.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and manufacturing environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Willingness to support team goals and assist in other departments when needed.

Skills:

  • Machine Operation:  Ability to safely operate molding, expander, conveyor, and forklift equipment.
  • Mechanical Aptitude:  Ability to monitor machine performance, troubleshoot issues, and complete basic maintenance procedures.
  • Communication Skills:  Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic Math & Measurement Skills:  Ability to read tape measures, calipers, and utilize metric scales accurately.
  • Computer Skills:  Basic computer knowledge for data entry, searches, and production reporting.
  • Attention to Detail:  Ability to complete production documentation accurately and maintain quality standards.
  • Safety Awareness:  Understanding of lock out/tag out procedures and company safety guidelines.
  • Teamwork:  Ability to work collaboratively while supporting production goals and company initiatives.
