Quality Assurance Technician

Location: Sparta, MI  Pay $ 19/hr  Shift: 1st shift 

Position Summary
The QA Technician I is responsible for performing daily quality monitoring, testing, and documentation to ensure food production processes and practices meet SQF food safety and quality standards, federal and state regulations, customer requirements, and company procedures.
This position works closely with production and quality teams to identify and address quality or food safety concerns and help maintain a safe, compliant, and high-quality production environment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain laboratory supplies inventory and ensure the laboratory remains clean and organized.
  • Perform and document analytical testing of finished products.
  • Enter test results into WINSPC.
  • Maintain required records and documentation.
  • Perform production line audits to ensure finished products meet specifications.
  • Place non-conforming products and ingredients on hold when necessary.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with PCs, CQPs, and CCPs.
  • Complete pre-start inspections and release production areas and lines for operation.
  • Maintain the finished product retain area.
  • Assist batchers and filler operators with analytical testing needed to support production.
  • Perform tote inspections and IA duties.
  • Follow all GMP, GLP, and housekeeping standards.
  • Notify supervisors and appropriate personnel of quality or production concerns.
  • Stop production lines when necessary to address quality or food safety concerns.
  • Assist with identifying and correcting quality issues through the QA hold program and other applicable processes.
  • Prepare concentrate and product development samples for the Quality Assurance Manager and upper management.
  • Promote and maintain a strong culture of food safety and quality.
  • Taste-test products as needed, typically up to a couple of ounces per test.
  • Perform all duties with a strong focus on safety and food safety.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 1–2 years of laboratory-related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of GFSI standards.
  • Basic HACCP knowledge.
  • Elementary PCQI knowledge.
  • FDA/USDA experience.
  • Previous Quality Control or Quality Assurance experience.
  • Experience in the food or beverage industry.
  • Previous manufacturing or production experience.
  • Ability to direct, coach, and train others.
  • Strong consultative, influencing, strategic-thinking, and problem-solving skills.
