Slitter Helper
Location: Shelby, MI Shift: 2nd Pay:
$20/hr
Job Summary:
Are you looking for a hands-on role in a manufacturing environment where safety, quality, and teamwork matter? We are hiring a Slitter Helper to support steel processing operations. In this role, you will be responsible for safely handling steel coils, assembling equipment, monitoring product quality, and ensuring accurate documentation throughout the production process.
This position is a great opportunity for someone looking to grow in metal manufacturing—previous experience is helpful but not required.
What You’ll Be Doing
As a Slitter Line Operator / Recoiler Operator, your core responsibilities will include:
• Complying with all safety requirements, including wearing required PPE such as hard hats and safety glasses
• Identifying different grades of steel
• Assembling and setting up slitter separator arms
• Monitoring steel as it is rewound on the recoiler and identifying defects or quality issues
• Removing finished coils from the recoiler
• Applying OD bands to coils
• Documenting cut numbers, coil dimensions, and heat numbers on each coil
• Keeping the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards
• Reporting quality concerns immediately, including stopping production when necessary to prevent nonconformance
What We’re Looking For
• Experience in a metal manufacturing environment is a plus, but not required
Knowledge & Skills Preferred:
• Basic reading, writing, and math skills
• Ability to follow safety and quality procedures
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to speak up about quality concerns
Equipment You May Work With:
• Coil loading and unloading equipment
• Banding equipment
• Slitter separator arms
• Overhead crane
• Micrometers, calipers, and tape measures
