Job Summary
A Structural Steel Fabricator is responsible for the accurate layout, fabrication, and welding of structural steel components—such as stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel—according to blueprints and specifications. The role requires strong precision, ability to operate cranes and yard equipment, maintaining safety and quality, and working both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Interpret and analyze blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine material requirements and task sequences.
  • Cut, shape, and assemble metal components using tools such as shears, saws, and welding equipment.
  • Utilizes proper welding techniques for quality fabrication of customer products 
  • Lifts, positions, and removes work pieces from conveyors and bunks to assist in fitting and welding
  • Loads, stacks, and transports stock, tools, and work in process by hand or crane.
  • Attaches chains and clamps (dogs) to work pieces to prepare work pieces for moving by crane or jib.
  • Cleans and grinds metal prior to fabricating, welding, painting, or shipping.
  • Picks up and removes scrap from work areas.
  • Cleans work area, machines, tools and equipment.
  • Safely operate overhead cranes.
  • Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications using measuring instruments like squares, rulers, and measuring tapes.
  • Inspect finished products for dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
  • Document inspection results and report any defects or non-conformities to supervisors.
 
Key Qualifications

  • 2-3+ years of experience in the fabrication of structural steel, with specific experience in layout, welding and fabricating stainless steel, aluminum, and carbon steel. 
  • Able to lift up to 70 pounds and maintain physical stamina throughout an entire shift 
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Basic math skills for measuring and calculating dimensions.
 
Preferred Qualifications
  • Technical certifications for Welding/ Fabrication 
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise and machinery.
  • Capable of standing for extended periods and performing tasks that require manual dexterity.
