Structural Steel Fabricator

 Kentwood, MI   Shift: 
   
2nd Shift: 4:00 PM – 3:00 AM, Monday – Friday (Overtime available on Saturday as needed) 
 
 
    Pay: 
 20.00+ per hour  
 
 
 Job Summary
   As a Structural Steel Fabricator at a leading steel manufacturer, you will be responsible for cutting, shaping, and assembling steel components according to blueprints and specifications. You can expect to perform welding and layout work, operate fabrication equipment, and ensure each piece meets precise quality and safety standards. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and teamwork while contributing to the accurate and efficient production of structural steel assemblies. 
 
 
 
 What You'll Be Doing
  As a  Structural Steel Fabricator  
your core responsibilities will include: 
 
 
 -  Fabricating steel components: 
 Cut, shape, and assemble structural steel using hand tools, welding equipment, and fabrication machinery
 
- Reading and interpreting blueprints: Review drawings and specifications to ensure accurate fabrication of parts
- Quality control: Measure parts with precision tools, conduct in-process inspections, and document production data to ensure compliance with specifications
  In addition, you will also be expected to act as a liaison between shop staff, project management, and other departments to resolve fabrication issues and ensure smooth operations. 
 
 
 What We're Looking For
  To be successful in this role, you should have the following: 
 
 
    Qualifications: 
 
 
 
 - 2–3+ years of experience in structural steel fabrication or a related metalworking trade
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and fabrication specifications
- Proficiency in welding (MIG, TIG, or Stick) and metal cutting techniques (torch, plasma, or saw)
- Skilled in operating fabrication tools, measuring instruments, and heavy equipment such as overhead cranes and forklifts
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift up to 70 lbs and stand for extended periods
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company procedures
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical or welding certifications
   Skills: 
 
 
 
 - Blueprint and Technical Drawing Interpretation: Ability to read and understand blueprints, drawings, and specifications to fabricate steel accurately
- Welding and Fabrication Skills: Proficiency in welding, cutting, shaping, and assembling steel components according to specifications
- Mechanical Aptitude & Equipment Operation: Skill in using fabrication tools, machines, and equipment such as saws, drills, presses, and cranes safely and efficiently
- Attention to Detail & Quality Control: Ensuring precise measurements, proper welds, and compliance with quality standards to prevent defects and rework
