Structural Steel Machine Operator
Location:
Kentwood, MI Shift:
2nd Shift: 4:00 PM – 3:00 AM, Monday – Friday (Overtime available on Saturday as needed)
Pay:
20.00+ per hour
Job Summary
As a Structural Steel Machine Operator you will be responsible for operating and monitoring machinery used in the fabrication and processing of structural steel components. You can expect to set up machines, load materials, ensure proper machine operation, perform quality checks, and make adjustments as needed to maintain production standards.
What You'll Be Doing
As a Machine Operator
, your core responsibilities will include:
- Operating CNC and related machinery:
Set up machines, monitor cycles, and make program edits to produce accurate, high-quality parts.
- Material handling:
Load raw materials and finished parts, safely move steel components using cranes, hoists, and forklifts, and stage items for production or shipment.
- Quality control:
Measure parts with precision tools, conduct in-process inspections, and document production data to ensure compliance with specifications.
In addition, you will also be expected to maintain machines and work areas, troubleshoot minor equipment issues, participate in continuous improvement initiatives, and communicate effectively with teammates and the next shift during handoffs.
What We're Looking For
To be successful in this role, you should have the following:
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1 year of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing setting
- 2+ years machining experience in a setting with structural steel
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and production drawings
- Basic computer skills for entering/editing machine programs and recording production data
- Strong math skills and mechanical aptitude
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate clearly in English
Skills:
- Machine Set Up and Operation: Successful candidates in this role will have extensive experience setting up, operating, and maintaining fabricating machinery with structural steel. Machine programming and some maintenance experience will also be greatly beneficial to the role.
- Equipment Operation& Material Handling Knowledge: Candidates must be able to show proficiency operating overhead cranes, forklifts, and other heavy equipment to maneuver and transport items through the facility. Successful operation with smooth and precise control is essential.
- Safety Awareness and Compliance: Adhering to safety and taking the necessary steps to maintain compliance in all activities is necessary and requires consistent updates and training.
- Communication and Organizational Skills: Being able to communicate and work with the team on site effectively and efficiently is a huge benefit and highly relevant requirement for this role
